The national government and the Kisumu County government plan to meet non-state actors to plan on how to deal with the expected El Nino rains.
Nyanza Regional Coordinator, Francis Mutie, announced on Saturday in Kisumu that the meeting will marshal support for the preparedness of the rains.
Mutie said non state actors specialising in different fields especially health will converge in Kisumu to deliberate on the matter.
“The national government is keen to putting measures before the rains start to cause havoc,” he said.
John Odida, Chief of Staff in the officer of Governor Jack Ranguma confirmed that representatives from the county government will attend the meeting.
Mr Odida who also heads the special programmes docket in the county government said they were putting logistics on how to deal with floods.
“The meeting will bring together NGOs, CBOs, county and national governments to map out prone areas and see what logistics will be needed,” he said.
He said the county government had embarked on disiltation or rivers emptying into Lake Victoria but lack of funds have slowed down the process.
Mr Odida noted that the non state actors will mainly deal with emergencies arising from flooding.
“The meeting will give us an opportunity to see what each organisation can do or bring to mitigate the effects of flooding,” he said.
