Police at Kithimani shopping centre on Tuesday arrested a man with counterfeit goods at a shop during crackdown following a tip off by members of the public.
The shopkeeper was arrested with counterfeit five cartons of Beifa ballpoint pens, two cartons of Rob ointments, two cartons of Tigerhead brand batteries, a carton of Vaseline petroleum jelly and a carton of HB pencils.
He also had with him a carton of Dettol soap, super match cigarettes which were meant for export only and two packets of Rizzla paper commonly used to wrap bhang.
Confirming the arrest, Yatta sub-county police boss Mr Edward Kipsang commended members of the public for volunteering information to the police and helping in curbing criminal activities in the area.
The officer added that it was a good way forward adding it would make the area a safer place. He called on other members of public to come forward in helping them curb crime.
He said that they were going to conduct more crackdowns in the area and try to flush out every criminal activity in the area.
The OCPD said that he is working closely with the Kenya Revenue Authority in ensuring they identify the counterfeits and prosecute anyone involved.
