Business operators at Nakuru’s Githima trading centre want the police to intensify patrols in the area to curb rising theft cases.
The traders, most of them wholesale and retail shop owners, have complained of their shops being broken into and goods stolen. The traders accused a certain criminal gang of being behind the break-ins.
Miriam Nyambura, a hardware owner, said that her shop was broken into and goods worth thousands of shillings stolen last week.
“The gang broke the door using crude weapons and stole some money and goods. We want the police to patrol, especially at night to arrest those behind the thefts,” she said.
Nyambura said the traders have reported the robbery cases severally but nothing has been done by the authorities so far.
She accused night guards of colluding with the thieves and called on the area chief to investigate the cases and arrest the perpetrators.
On Friday night, a suspect was killed by police in the area after a botched attempt to steal from a sawmill.
His accomplices managed to escape and officers have launched a search to nab the suspects.
