Traders at Kibuye market in Kisumu have welcomed Kenya Power's urban electrification project saying it is a boost for their businesses.
The traders said they can now extend their working hours an see a possibility of a 24 hour business.
"I now close my stall at 9pm as compared to 7pm as I did earlier," said Margaret Atieno, a business woman at the market.
Margaret says that she can now catch up with her customers who leave work late in the evening.
Gladys Sagina who sells groceries said in an interview that most customers would want to buy fresh fruits and vegetables, but with darkness no one is willing to purchase her goods.
"I am no longer worried about customers complaining of buying bad fruits for they choose what they want to buy on their own," she says.
The traders are also happy that they will not spend money on buying batteries for their spotlights. They added that they now sell their goods under hygienic conditions because they do not use paraffin lambs any more.
"I am no longer worried about adding paraffin to my lamp and at the same time serve customers," said another trader.
"With all the benefits of the lights, the business people at the market are asking for more development. The roads leading to the market are impassable when it rains."
