They also faced charges of dealing with game trophies without a valid licence from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).

According to the charge sheet, Paul Munania, James Mulwa and Patrick Nyoike were arrested on Saturday, September 19, in Gatuanyaga in possession of a leopard's skin valued at Sh500,000.

The three were arrested by Kilimambogo KWS rangers and Fourteen Falls Police Station officers along Garissa Road while trying to board a matatu headed to Matuu.

The trio faces a maximum fine of Sh30 million for the two charges or life imprisonment or both according to Wildlife Conservation Act of 2013.

The three denied the charges and were remanded at Thika Police Station after they were unable to raise a cash bail of Sh500,000 as directed by Thika Resident Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo.

The case is expected to be heard on October 21.
