Paul Katimba denied stealing goods worth Sh200 from his employer Pius Kariuki. The prosecution told the court that the accused stole cooking oil he was given to transport to a client from Kariuki’s hardware based in Kisumu.

The offence, which is alleged to have been committed on the October 10 was supposed to be mentioned before the court last week, but inconclusive investigation could not permit that.

On the fateful day, Katimba was given the cooking oil but later called the employer and informed him that he had been hijacked along the way and the cooking oil stolen, the court heard.

The matter was reported to the police who launched investigations into the matter.

Police are said to have relied on eye witness accounts who claimed that no hijacking had taken place as the oil was offloaded from the truck to another vehicle willingly.

It was later discovered that the oil was hidden in the house of Katimba in Nyamasaria Kisumu County, the court was told.

Kisumu chief magistrate Esther Maina released the accused on a cash bail of Sh50,000 pending the hearing on January 13 next year.
