The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has been accused of transferring teachers in Masaba based on ‘malice' contrary to the law.

Speaking on Monday morning at Don Bosco Nyabiosi Secondary School, Masaba Keya National Union of Teachers (Knut) branch secretary general Meshack Ombong’i said a section of members had raised the issue with his office.

He said transfers of teachers should not be done with discrimination or without giving tangible reasons to the affected teachers.

“My office has received a number of complaints about transfers based on malice. We are investigating the issues because we have about 15 cases reported in the month of October. But in case our employers are transferring people without genuine reasons, then they have to stop with immediate effect,” he said.

Ombong'i said forced transfers were likely to demotivate teachers hence reducing their efficiency and subsequent performances of learners in the institutions that they are transferred to.

“Doing things forcibly is likely to demotivate our members. Subjecting them to an environment perceived to be unfriendly to them will lead to dismal performances. Therefore TSC has to be realistic and give transfers in a genuine and transparent manner,” he added.

He said the cases he had received highlight internal disagreements between the teachers and schools' administrations as the reason behind the transfers.

“Most of our members are accusing school heads of using minor differences between them to order for transfers. That is unacceptable and we have already written to TSC and we are waiting for their response,” he said.
