Two people have been arrested by Keroka police officers for allegedly murdering their aging father for failing to partition the ancestral land despite their advanced age.

The Thursday incident at Kineni village in Nyamira County left residents with a lot of questions about the security of the aged as residents demanded more from the government.

According to eyewitnesses, Mr Elijah Omare and Peter Mosaisi descended on their father, Jackson Omare, in his house and beat him before he succumbed to his injuries at Keroka district hospital.

“They have been complaining that the deceased has refused to partition the ancestral land and that is why they were angry at the father," said Alice Ogari.

"This has been going on for some time now till they decided to commit the crime. It’s really painful because the father was advocating for unity for using the ancestral land as a team.”

Area chief Peter Monyancha confirmed the incident and urged residents to respect the old besides warning them against taking the law into their own hands.

“The old should be respected because they are superior to us. Whoever attempts to take the law into his or her own hands is a criminal and is destined to cell. Let this be a first step of teaching people a lesson,” he said.

The two will remain locked in the cells according to deputy OCS Alex Muchiri as the police expedites the process of investigations.
