Two suspects were on Thursday arraigned before a Kisumu court accused of swindling Sh50, 000 from five job seekers.

The accused, Dennis Opondo and Lukas Omamo, are said to have obtained the money from job seekers in Kisumu with the promise of giving them jobs.

They denied the charges before Chief magistrate Thomas Obutu for the offence they are alleged to have committed on July 15, this year.

The prosecution told the court that the two approached Stephen Maila, a Kisumu resident with the promise of giving him a supermarket attendant job.

Maila, said the prosecution, was asked to find other four people who were interested in the job that was alleged to be available in Mombasa. He managed to bring four of his friends on board and agreed to get the alleged job.

The five were asked to pay Sh10, 000 each, money which they were told it would take care of their transport and accommodation.

They are said to have paid the money by July 23. After paying the money through a local mobile money transfer system they were told to wait for further communication after 24 hours, something that never happened, said the prosecution.

After three days there was still no response from the two, something which prompted them to go to the police, who launched investigations and arrested the two on August 10.

They were released on a Sh10, 000 cash bail each with a surety of a similar amount pending the hearing of the case on September 25.
