Two people died instantly while nine others sustained serious injured after a vehicle they were travelling in lost control near Makongeni market, along Garissa highway on Thursday morning.
According to Josphath Mbura, a witnesses, the vehicle was heading to Matuu town from Thika when the tragic incident occurred after it lost control and rolled several times.
He, however, said passengers were robbed of personal effects by the local people in broad daylight before the police arrived at the scene of the incident.
He said most of the casualties lost money and cell phones to members of the public who arrived in the area purporting to rescue the passengers from the wreckage.
“They took off from the scene upon seeing other public service vehicles approach from both directions as the police took time before they arrived,” Mbura said.
All of those injured were rushed to St Matia Mulumba Hospital in the area by the Kiambu County rescue team vehicles.
Thika sub-county traffic police base commandant Apelles Chacha was saddened by the incidence and confirming from the scene said that the motorists ought to be careful on the roads as the area has been so prone to accidents in the recent days.
The officer has had tough times for the last two weeks as the Thika road consume lives of numerous passengers and pedestrians and thus has been calling for caution among drivers while on the roads.
