Two people are in critical condition at St Mulumba Hospital in Makongeni, Thika Sub-County after the vehicle they were travelling in lost control and veered off the road at dawn on Thursday morning.

The victims are said to be the driver and his conductor. The two were travelling to Makongeni from Delmonte area where they conduct their daily transport operations. Allegedly, the vehicle lost control along the Delmonte Road which connects to Garissa Road at BAT.

According to an eyewitness, the vehicle was not speeding and he was shocked to see it lose control, landing in a ditch. He said that he was heading to the market at around 5:30am to deliver milk when he witnessed the accident.

Thika deputy traffic police commander John Lisoi later arrived at the scene with other traffic police officers after they were notified of the accident.

Residents who arrived at the scene took the victims to hospital.

Following the incident, Lisoi has cautioned motorists saying the police are tired of handling accident cases. He promised a crackdown on rogue drivers and unroadworthy vehicles.
