Two Kiambu MPs have vowed to intensify the fight against illicit brews in the county and other areas in the Mount Kenya counties.
Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu and his Juja counterpart Francis Munyua on Tuesday told journalists at Matangi in Murera, Ruiru that they will continue to lead crackdowns targeting those selling illicit brews in Kiambu and Central Kenya.
The two had come to intervene following the arrest of a woman who is leading an anti-illicit brews campaign in the area on Monday evening.
The woman was released after the two legislators intervened.
"We will continue to support our people until this war on illicit brews is over. It is our children who are dying in the hands of greedy businessmen," said Waititu.
Waititu also dared King'eero bar owners to go to court saying he owes them no apology following last weekend's crackdown where alcohol worth millions was poured by residents.
The two also warned the police against being used by the bar owners to protect them against angry protestors.
"The police must not be seen to condone impunity. Arresting people who have come out to protest against these brews will not be taken lightly," he said.
The two MPs also expressed their support for the initiative that was launched by Central Kenya journalists saying the war against the brews needs a concerted effort. The media campaign will kick-off on Saturday noon at Kirigiti Stadium in Kiambu.
