Kenya African National Union (KANU) nominated member of the Kakamega County Assembly Sellah Keya has said that the two thirds gender rule that is enshrined in the Kenyan constitution must be upheld and respected.
Speaking in Soy in Uasin Gishu County on Monday, Keya said that whatever is enshrined in the constitution must be implemented and cautioned the male politicians against standing on the women's 'road to prosperity' by making sure the women have less numbers.
Keya said that the ‘chauvinist’ twentieth century has gone, and men should stand the challenge instead of using their numbers in powerful positions to stop women from fighting for their rights.
The MCA said that it is time the womenfolk stood up to the task quoting 'What a man can do, a woman can do better'.
she said that women will rise up against any form of oppression that is being received from men and according to her, women in this country have a big task in ensuring that the gender rule is met.
“Right now we are nowhere. Unless we stand up as women of this country and fight for what rightfully belongs to us, then we are losing the battle,” she added.
Keya further urged women across the country to protect the constitution, which is being 'misused' by men.
