Uasin Gishu County government has hosted the County Farmers Agri-Business Trade Fair, which that is meant to equip farmers with knowledge and skills to practice agriculture as a business.

Farmers from different counties had the opportunity to exhibit their products and ideas, as well as conducting direct sales to clients.

Speaking on Friday at the exhibition in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County secretary Peter Lelei, who was the chief guest said that the county is the food basket for the entire country, and they are doing all they can to support farmers.

Lelei further urged women and the youth to form groups, so that they can benefit from government projects such as ‘inua mama na kuku’, an initiative by Uasin Gishu County Governor Jackson Mandago that is meant to promote women financially through giving them chicks to earn a living.

“In the current budget, agriculture received a small amount of money, but the county is trying its best to help farmers by organising such agricultural trade fares which will help in giving farmers ideas, the county will provide a suitable environment, support and technology needed to attain this,” he said.

He further urged Uasin Gishu residents to be self-employed through trade and agriculture, adding that this way, they can reduce unemployment issues and be self-reliant.

This comes after the county recently entered into an MOU with the University of Eldoret to establish a fish hatchery, contributing Sh10m for the project.
