Uasin Gishu farmers have been urged to adopt the use of Artificial Insemination (AI) as a safe and efficient way for farmers to increase productivity.
Speaking in his office on Monday the CeC in charge of Agriculture, Cyril Cheruiyot said that through artificial insemination, farmers will receive high-quality cattle breeds and eventually achieve increased milk production.
He stressed that AI has much more benefits for farmers as compared to the traditional style of using locally sourced bulls.
"Uasin Gishu government has subsidised the price of semen by half of the initial price, thus making it easy for farmers to afford. I urge farmers to avoid using bulls to sire their cows and instead embrace AI," he said.
"AI comes with numerous benefits such as increased milk production of at least 20 litres per day, high-quality cattle breeds, faster in growth and disease resistant. All this translates to increased incomes for our farmers," he added.
The CeC challenged farmers to seek advice from agricultural extension officers stationed in every sub-county to educate them on AI; its cost and the benefits of using it as compared to the traditional alternative.
