Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Mohammed Abdi has directed police across the county to map out areas perceived to be criminal hideouts and smoke them out.

Speaking to journalists in his office on Friday, Abdi said police officers must work around the clock and get rid of criminal activities in some parts of the county.

The county commissioner said the recent spate of criminal activities in some parts of Eldoret Town is of concern.

“I have directed police officers to conduct security raids and get rid of criminals across the county,” he said.

Mohammed further directed police to increase surveillance in all parts of the county adding that security of residents is critical and that police should provide it adequately.

Mohammed said that police in the area are devising effective ways of dealing criminals.

The county commissioner also warned armed criminals saying they will face the wrath of the law once arrested.

He said police officers are hunting for armed criminals believed to be behind a spate of robberies and killings in the county.

He said that law enforcers will not sit down and allow criminals to terrorise the public.

Mohammed also warned individuals owning firearms illegally saying that they will be nabbed and charged in court.

This comes after a businessman was shot dead in Action estate by unknown gunmen last weekend and police shooting dead a suspect gunman near the Moi Referral Hospital in Eldoret Town on Wednesday.
