The Uasin Gishu County government has been asked to help asthma patients get treatment in a bid to reduce cases of asthmatic conditions in the county.

Speaking after the conclusion of a two day free asthma screening at Eldoret District Hospital on Thursday, Ms Agnes Wandia, the lead educator of Cipla, a pharmaceutical company that has been conducting the screenings in Eldoret decried high cases of asthma in the county.

Wandia noted that the cases are high especially among children and the elderly.

“From the statistics and experience we have heard, it is evident that asthma cases are high in this region,” she said.

The Cipla lead educator said that if untreated on time, asthmatic conditions could lead to chronic diseases.

She said the government can intervene by helping patients get inhalers and other medications required to control the ailment.

The educator also asked parents to make sure that their children are well covered during cold seasons.

Wandia said asthma affects many people across the world and can be managed if patients adhere to the medical directions.

More than 500 patients attended the screening where they were also given tips on how to manage the condition.

Wandia said similar free screen campaigns will be carried out across the country with the main view of sensitising asthma patients on the condition and how to use inhalers.
