Uasin Gishu County is set to hold an Information Communication Technology (ICT) youth empowerment conference at the end of October.
Speaking in his office on Friday, the Chief Officer in charge of ICT and E-government, Edwin Kemboi said that the conference will sensitise the youth on the importance of ICT in the modern world.
“The conference which is being organised by the department of ICT and E-government, shall focus on sensitising youth on opportunities in the ICT sector in the county and beyond,” said Kemboi.
Kemboi said that they are expecting to host young people and stakeholders from different counties who will highlight the opportunities in ICT and how they can be utilised to transform the society.
He says since Kenya's economy is growing and a majority of citizens continually depend on ICT-aided tools to enhance their livelihood, there was the need to empower the youth to provide solutions.
“ICT is the pillar to drive performance in different sectors by providing efficient service delivery such as in the health sector and an array of other business areas,” said Kemboi.
"We are currently going paperless in our offices, so empowering the youth will promote the efficient use of ICT which will in turn enable us achieve vision 2030," he added.
The youth empowerment conference with the theme 'Digital Shift: Youth and ICT for Development', is expected to take place on October 30 and 31 at Sirikwa Hotel.
