Uasin Gishu County government will spend Sh4 million for the vaccination of livestock against the Rift Valley fever.

Speaking in his office, the CEC in charge of Agriculture Mr Cyril Cheruiyot said that the Ministry of Agriculture has set up measures to ensure that no animal looses life during the Elnino rains by ensuring that every animal is vaccinated against the Rift valley fever which is commonly transmitted during the rainy season.

"As a ministry we don't want the recurrence of the 1997 Elnino rains where we lost a lot of animals. In the vaccination we are targeting areas which are prone to Rift Valley Fever in Uasin Gishu County such as Kesses, Turbo and Ngenyilel. He urged farmers to come out in large numbers and bring their animals for vaccination," he said.

He urged the national government through the Ministry of Agriculture to provide mobile driers at affordable rates for farmers to dry their crops after harvesting.

"Farmers should harvest their crops early to avoid them getting loses due to the forthcoming Elnino rains and take them to the National Cereals and produce Board for them to get dried," he added.
