Youths in Uasin Gishu have been urged to focus fully on technical education, be industrious and self-employment oriented instead of always concentrating on white collar jobs which are scarce.

Speaking in his office on Tuesday, Uasin Gishu County Deputy governor Daniel Chemno said that technical education is the only way to go as youths, and the remedy for the alarming rate of unemployment.

“The national and county governments should invest fully in technical institution and build more, since the institutions provide quality education that creates innovators who are job creators,” he said.

“Why should we import chairs from China and yet we have our own technical personnel who can do the same job at a cheaper price and doing it even better, making our country loose over Sh1 trillion for the importation labour from foreign countries,” he added.

Chemno also noted that his government will partner with technical institutions through funding, offering conference facilityies during education conferences and also ensuring the granduants get employment, but urged private investors to create a proper channel for the partnership to bear fruits.

“Uasin Gishu County Government has sponsored 600 students to pursues technical courses at Rift valley Technical Training Institute, which is a bench mark for innovation and role model in inculcating research, such as electrical engineering, and plumbing and has catered for their fees, pocket money and accommodation until they complete their education,” added Chemno.
