Two Ugandan herbalists who obtained Sh225,000 from a woman they claimed to have cured have been charged with fraud at a Nakuru court.   Fred Mugonyi and Mugaba Daudi, who appeared before chief magistrate Samuel Mungai on Monday, were accused of obtaining money by false pretence from Riziki Tsuma on diverse dates between January 15 and May 6 this year at Nakuru’s Kaptembwa estate.

The duo also allegedly harassed their client, demanding Sh450,000 from her. However, the court was told that she pleaded with them to accept half the prize as treatment fees.

The prosecution further told the court that the foreigners faced charges of unlawfully residing in the country without valid entry permits or passports from the immigration department.

The accused were arrested on Friday evening at a police checkpoint within Nakuru town before being handed over to the immigration department officials for further interrogation.

The suspects denied all the charges and were released on a Sh200,000 bond each and sureties of similar amounts.

Justice Mungai ordered the two to avail Kenyan sureties in court to secure their temporary freedom.

The case will be heard on September 18 this year.
