Politicians from Ukambani region on Sunday helped raise over Sh2.5 million for construction of St Jude's Catholic Church in Mavoko Constituency.

The funds drive where Mavoko MP, Patrick Makau was the chief guest, was graced by political leaders including MPs Robert Mbui (Kathiani), Daniel Maanzo (Makueni), Rose Museu (Makueni Women representative), Joash Olum (Lang’ata), CCU Party leader, Wavinya Ndeti and the suspended lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu.

The three hours function was described by Makau as successful arguing that the funds raised were enough to complete the construction of an administration block for the church.

The leaders said they had all turned up for the fundraising because the church's leadership had good image and a track record. They said they were convinced the money collected would be effectively utilised for the intended purpose.

Makau gave his own donation of Sh300,000 while Ngilu gave Sh50,000. Machakos governor Alfred Mutua, sent a representative and pledged to donate Sh200,000.

The leaders urged the clergy across the nation to pray for Kenya's leadership and especially the executive in the Jubilee government which they accused of not respecting Kenyans and the rule of law.
