Chiefs have been advised to use public barazas to educate residents about the predicted El Nino rains in their places and on how to put the necessary measures before it starts.

Speaking on Thursday in Kisii, Mr Henry Sese, Kisii chief officer of meteorological department said barazas are the best forums where residents can be educated on issues affecting the society such as the anticipated El Nino.

“This is the best place we can get people, we urge our chiefs and other officers in sub counties to make use of barazas to educate residents about the coming rains and on how to have measures in place to avert disasters,” said Sese.

He also noted that some areas in Kisii county like Nyatira in Bobasi, Nyasasa in South Mugirango, Itumbe are the hot spots when it rains so there is need for the residents to be sensitized on how to protect them selves from any disaster.

“As the meteorological department, we have put measures that will help our people get information on the coming rain and on how to protect themselves,” added Mr Sese.

He urged residents to attend such meetings to get the necessary information in relation to El Nino.
