Nakuru County Administration Police Commandant Francis Kirathe has called on the general public to make use of suggestion boxes at different police posts to communicate sensitive issues.
Speaking from his office on Friday, the AP boss noted that it was only through free flow of information that service delivery would be as per the people’s wish.
“Tell us what you want, how you want it be done and where you feel we are not performing as per your expectations,” he said.
According to Kirathe, the days of intimidation and use of excessive force in the police service were over.
“A police officer is human and his core function is to serve the common mwananchi, let’s talk and share different views on how we can co-exist in a more secure society,” the police boss advised.
He further expressed satisfaction with the response community policing had received so far saying that through tip-offs from the publics, a lot of criminal activities had been unearthed and dealt with satisfactory.
He pointed out the fight against illicit brew in the county as one of the positives as far the mwananchi-police relationship is concerned.
“Even to date, we are still receiving information of where these counterfeit brews are being sold from the people and that is the relationship we want to create,” he said.
“A police officer may not be available at every crime scene. It’s your duty as a good citizen to bring to our attention anything that might have happened without us knowing. It’s only by doing this that criminals will be identified from the rest of us,” he added.
Suggestion boxes are placed at every reporting desk of all public offices where anybody is entitled to give their view of the service received.
