Nakuru residents have been urged to visit various earmarked facilities at their respective sub-counties for cancer screening and reproductive health advice.
Speaking in London Ward, at the GK Prison on Monday during the official launch of the county cancer awareness week, Health cabinet executive Dr Mungai Kabii called on everybody to seize the chance and have free cancer screening from experts at the different facilities.
He noted that healthy living was the surest way of ensuring some diseases are dealt with at earlier stage before seriously affecting the body.
“As a county government, we are concerned about our people’s health and well-being that’s why we have structured such programmes aimed at benefiting everybody irrespective of where you come from,” he explained.
He expressed confidence that the drive will achieve the expected results at the end but called on residents to avail themselves for screening.
“Such opportunities are rare to come by because it’s usually very expensive and inconveniencing to the common mwananchi, this is now your chance,” he advised.
On his part, Health Chief Officer Samuel Mwaura specifically called on women to come in large numbers because their bodies are usually prone to various health disorders that if not noticed at an early stage cumulates into cancer and other birth disorders.
“Let the message reach our women because their bodies are vulnerable to numerous activities that lead to cancer, please come and utilise these services for our aim is to have a healthy and productive County,” he noted.
The programme was officially launched by Nakuru first lady Lucia Mbugua and is expected to run for the whole week.
