Women from Itumbe Location, Sameta Sub-County have been warned against diverting the Uwezo Fund loans to sponsor their daughters to undergo Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) during this August school holiday.
Area Chief Henry Mirera also put on notice women who will subject their daughters to the outlawed act saying they will be arrested and prosecuted according to the constitution.
Speaking on Friday during a baraza at his Giasaiga chief's office, Mirera clarified that the Uwezo Fund loans were meant to economically empower women and youths to transform their lives through initiation of income-generating activities.
The chief observed that some women who benefit from such loans routinely divert the money to other activities which cannot benefit them.
He advised the beneficiaries to utilise the loans well to boost their businesses and grow their investment capitals instead of going for expensive loans from commercial banks which charge high interest rates.
