A university student who allegedly stolen a mobile phone valued at Sh24,000 from a colleague was on Monday charged with theft by a Nakuru court.
The accused, Naomi Chepkirui, allegedly stole a Samsung phone and other assorted items all valued at Sh30,000 from Joseph Kipchirchir on June 26 this year at a local restaurant in Nakuru’s Kaptembwa estate.
The court heard that the accused frequents local restaurants with her accomplices where they steal from unsuspecting customers. She allegedly committed the offence jointly with others who are still at large.
Chepkirui, who appeared before chief magistrate Samuel Mungai, denied the charges and was released on a Sh30,000 bond and a surety of a similar amount.
The case will be heard on August 22.
And in the same court, two drivers alleged to have stolen fuel from vehicles belonging to the Ministry of Transport and infrastructure were charged with theft.
Geoffrey Njuguna and John Kiruki were charged that on June 26 this year, they stole 130 litres of diesel valued at Sh14,000 at the Geothermal Development Company offices in the outskirts of Nakuru town.
The duo were also accused of conspiring to steal an excavator valued at Sh6,000, also property of the ministry. The court heard that the two committed the offence jointly with others who are still at large.
The two denied the charges and were released on a Sh30,000 bond each and sureties of a similar amount.
The case will be heard on August 21.
