Kisii University marketing team led by Dr Evelyn Kumenda has said about 500 students from both University of Eldoret and Masinde Muliro have been allowed to join the institution following a successful inter university transfer.
This follows mayhems that marred learning in the institutions, a move that will enable those affected students to complete their education at Kisii University.
The two institutions have been in the headlines recently with the University of Eldoret closed indefinitely as the senate accused a section of the institution's leaders of inciting students along ethnic lines.
“We are expecting visitors from the UoE and MMUST following their application to join us. Management of the universities in question has already approved that and let no one politicise the issue. This is genuine transfers and they must be respected,” said Dr Kumenda.
However, the move has received criticism from a section of Kisii University student leaders with the Secretary General Mr Kelvin Okwara citing lack of the facility as the reason to his stand.
“It is absurd to bring more students, yet we have serious facility shortages. The management has messed and as comrades, this is unacceptable. We haven’t been consulted either,” said Okwara.
The institution was in the headlines some months back for allegedly ‘fishing’ students from other institutions.
