The vehicles were impounded for various offences among them tampering with digital speed governors, drunkenness, speeding and overloading.

According to the officer in charge of the operation, Matthew Munyao, all vehicles operating along the superhighway have been identified regularly by the traffic department having committed traffic offences thus the need for the operation.

Munyao said that most of the vehicles have no genuine digital speed governors and that they are the major cause of accidents. He said the vehicles should not be on the road.

He added that the alcohol content by drivers should be at 0.00% and they will not allow drunk drivers to endanger lives.

Speaking in Ruiru where most vehicles were impounded, the officer said that they are targeting to eliminate all the unroadworthy vehicles from the area roads to ease traffic congestions and curb regular accidents.

He noted that there is need to ensure even the bodaboda operators are trained on traffic rules and regulations as they have also turned into the highway thus they are causing distractions to the vehicles resulting to accidents.
