Kiambu county's Sports and Youth Affairs Executive Machel Waikenda has encouraged the youth to apply for the Biashara and Uwezo Funds and start businesses of their choice in order to improve their financial situations.

Speaking at Ndumberi grounds in Kiambu on Tuesday, Waikenda said that the county government has taken the initiative to empower and promote youth welfare via initiatives such as the Biashara and Uwezo Funds.

Waikenda however also noted that the number of youths and other groups applying for the funds has increased in the last few months.

“We want to encourage the youth across Kiambu county to apply for the loans under the Biashara Fund and start business ventures that will only serve to benefit them,” he said.

He further added that the county government is considering increasing the fund from Kshs. 300 million to Kshs. 700 million.

Waikenda affirmed that increasing the fund will provide an opportunity for the youth, women and persons living with disabilities to get the money.

On the same note, Waikenda urged the beneficiaries of both the Biashara and Uwezo Fund to use the money wisely.

“Our advise goes to all those youths, women and persons with disabilities benefiting from the Uwezo and Biashara Fund to use the funds wisely,” he added.
