Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu has vowed to stem out bars and pubs operating illegally in the constituency.

Waititu, who led a section of youths in destroying illegal bar premises in Kabete on Saturday, gave the illegal operators two days to close down, saying the bars have led to rise in alcohol consumption in the constituency.

The MP, while speaking to the press during the demolition, said that many youths and elderly men have resulted to drinking, affecting development in the area.

“It is not going to be business as usual, illegal bar operators must go, either you close down or we do it,” he vowed.

He further said that illegal consumption of alcohol and illicit brewing has consumed many lives, while others left maiming life-long scars.

The legislator further observed that women and children have been abandoned by their men and husbands who spend time and money drinking.

“It is clear that Governor William Kabogo’s government has failed to curb illegal sale of alcohol and illicit brews, we will do all we can to stamp it out,” he said.

Several bar premises were demolished with a section of youths taking advantage to loot alcoholic drinks from the demolished premises.

This comes barely a few days after seven people died, after they consumed expired alcohol at Kiandutu slums.

County Commissioner Esther Maina has since called for a major crackdown on makers and sellers of illegal drinks.
