Wakulima market traders have defiantly continued to boycott paying revenue to the county government over poor service delivery.

Unlike in the past two days when fresh produce suppliers were the only ones boycotting, other traders have joined in. The boycott is continuing even after anti-riot police were deployed in the market to protect county revenue officers.

The police were to protect county revenue officers who collect money from the traders.

Wakulima market chairman Daniel Kahuho said they will withhold paying the revenues until the county government addresses the mess in the market.

The traders have accused Governor Kinuthia Mbugua’s government of failing to collect garbage. They also claimed that it has taken long to complete the hawkers’ complex project which started four years ago.

Biashara ward MCA Stephen Kuria said, “I challenge the governor to make a point of visiting the market and assess the situation. He also needs to dialogue with the traders."

On Thursday, the governor was adamant that efforts to restore Nakuru’s lost glory will not be hindered by a few individuals.
