Kiambu senator Kimani Wamatangi has dared the National Assembly to go on with its threat of disbanding the Senate.

Speaking in Limuru town on Thursday, Wamatangi accused National Assembly members of being led by malice and mischief.

The Kiambu senator said that the Senate will not be intimidated by Members of Parliament.

“The National Assembly should learn to respect the senate and know that we exist under the law,” he said.

Wamatangi termed the threats by MPs to scrap the Senate as baseless.

A section of MPs have been quoted saying that they want to disband the senate saying it is irrelevant and that its functions are being performed by the National Assembly.

Wamatangi said that the conduct and actions of MPs in the National Assembly has been wanting and the Senate will not allow itself to be dragged into the affairs of MPs.

The senator also accused MPs of envying the Senate stating that was the reason why they scrapped Sh1 billion from the Senate's budget.

The lawmaker intimated that the MPs are trying to create a supremacy battle between the Senate and the National Assembly.

Wamatangi said such supremacy battles will not help and will instead deny both houses an opportunity to serve Kenyans in terms of legislation.

“The National Assembly members should style up and be reasonable in their work as legislators,” added Wamatangi.
