Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has said that there is a need to change how group-oriented funds like women and youth funds are disbursed.
Speaking on Citizen TV's breakfast show this morning, Wamatangi said that existing and known local networks that are down to the grassroots should be used in the funds disbursement.
"When you create a fund belonging to a certain group, then you put it in the bank and say that the concerned group should come for it, little success will be achieved," said Wamatangi.
He added: "We need to make use of known groups like Maendeleo ya Wanawake (MYWO) that are down to the village level and which members are able to identify with."
Wamatangi noted that the funds could help build budding entrepreneurs if well disbursed to reach the target groups.
"Unlike before when we were told that entrepreneurs were born and not made, we now know that with little empowerment to our young population, we can breed millions of entrepreneurs," he said.
He promised to take a bill to Senate that addresses the matter comprehensively.
