Nakuru Rural Water and Sanitation Services Company managing director Reuben Korir has expressed confidence in the way Governor Kinuthia Mbugua was handling water and sanitation issues in the county.
According Korir, Mbugua is committed to ensuring the supply of clean, available and affordable water to all residents across the county.
Speaking in Kaptembwa slums over the weekend while on a site tour on the on-going piped water project in the slum launched by the governor last week, he was full of praises to Mbugua saying that under his administration, a majority of slums in Nakuru have been served with the precious commodity.
“His record speaks for itself because of late, water is no longer an issue in Nakuru, specifically our informal settlements,” he told journalists.
“He has provided funds, donors and adequate machinery that has made our work to be easier. Through his endless efforts, I can assure that a lot has changed in terms of water supply and sanitation,” he added.
Korir cited poor drainage and sanitation facilities as the main causes of waterborne diseases that have for a long time been characterised people living in slums.
“This made people live in deplorable conditions, drink dirty and contaminated water subjecting them to diseases like cholera,” he noted.
Through the Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement project (KISIP) funded by the World Bank, the governor has ensured that a majority of slums in the county get a facelift by repairing drainage systems, fitting security lights, connecting piped water and ensuring proper waste disposal mechanisms.
Among slums that have benefited from the project are Kaptembwo, Kioko, Kwa Rhonda, Heshima and Mwariki.
