The General Manager of Yatta Water and Sanitation Company Andrew Kamundi has appealed to residents of Yatta and its environs to assist in curbing illegal connection of water and water spillage to cut down on the costs incurred by the water service provider in the area.
He said that people in the area have a duty to assist the water company so as to make savings and be able to expand services to other people.
The manager recalled that a lot of money was utilised in repairs of burst pipes and surveillance of illegal connections adding that if residents of good will reported such incidences the saving would have gone long way in serving other people with water.
Mr Kamundi, who was speaking to the public in Yatta on Tuesday said despite high cost of water pipes, the company was working hard to initiate developments like construction of water kiosks to provide water to people who were unable to install piped water in their homesteads.
He said more water kiosks were targeted in lower parts of the area where residents were less economically endowed as compared to their counterparts in upper areas.
He said residents in Kithimani and Ekalakal areas would soon benefit once the ongoing laying of 160mm diameter transmission line is completed.
