A section of youths from Nyamusi area in Nyamira County have reiterated the importance of youths contributing to the society without necessarily being in elective offices.
Speaking during the launch of ‘Youths Champion’s League’ tournament on Monday, Justus Bang’i of Nyamira Youth Bunge challenged youths to engage in serving the residents and transform the region to an economic powerhouse.
Bang’i said youths would fight for their recognition in the society if they stayed focused in promoting transformation leadership in the rural areas, by coming up with projects that would help them fight the abject poverty that a number of them were facing.
“Let us not wait to be elected to serve our people. Leadership starts with the little things we do. We must stay focused to ensure that we launch projects that will enable us fight the abject poverty that many of us are living in,” he said.
They called upon the successful youths from the region to engage in philanthropic activities in a bid to reduce the overdependence among the young generation.
“We have always believed in this philosophy of being helped by politicians. Some of them end up misusing us but we have a chance to turn things round by supporting among ourselves. Many of the youths fight to get leadership positions and when they get there, they tend to forget their past,” added Vincent Nyakundi.
However, they maintained that there was need for a number of them to get elected to offices in a bid to help them get support from both the county and national government.
“However, this doesn’t mean that we don’t go for elective positions. We want some of us there to help us get services such as youth enterprise funds in an expeditious manner,” Nyakundi added.
