Residents of Kasuitu slum in Mavoko Sub-County on Saturday morning protested against Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua's claims that all villages in the county had been supplied with clean tap water.

Addressing the press at the slum shortly after the protests, the residents said they were yet to be supplied with clean water despite the governor's claims.

Roseline Mwendo said they lack clean water, a situation that has forced them to buy water from Athi River's Export Processing Zone Authority for drinking and cooking.

Josphat Kyiende claimed that the slum has been neglected adding that even the roads are in a bad state.

"We feel neglected by the county government because we hardly get any meaningful services from the administration," said Kyiende.

Meanwhile, Athi River Township Ward MCA, Michael Mutua, said there are plans to open up roads in the slum as well as ensuring it is supplied with clean water.

"I am aware of both the roads and water situation in the slum. The county government will soon install water pipes and taps for water supply," said Mutua.

He urged residents to be patient arguing that the neighbouring Slaughter slum had water taps installed barely a week ago.
