Residents of West Mugirango in Nyamira county have a reason to smile after an aspiring MP announced his mega plan to serve every village with tapped water.
Speaking on Monday at Nyabisimba in Bogichora ward during his second day of touring the region, Peter Oire said he had partnered with area residents living in Delaware (ASA) to initiate a Sh30 million water project that will be launched by the end of October.
Mr Oire said clean water was fundamental to every homestead but insisted the project targets serving all villages at central points with water for easy fetching.
“We can’t run away from the fact that we live in hilly regions that makes it difficult to access springs down valley. We have contributed Sh30 million as well-wishers from Delaware to start the project by the end of October. We are intending to serve all villages (sub-locations) with clean tapped water,” he said.
He said Kenya Power had started installing electricity towards River Gucha from which the water will be pumped to the intended destination.
“Kenya Power has started electricity installation for those who are keen should have noticed that. River Gucha is capable of serving all residents with clean water and this project is unstoppable. We have obtained permission from Lake Victoria Basin Board and no one can stop us,” he said.
The youthful candidate who is expected to challenge second term MP Dr James Gesami urged he county government to improve infrastructure in the agricultural oriented county for easy transportation of farm produce to markets.
