A woman was on Tuesday released on a Sh20,000 bond or a cash bail of Sh10,000 after she was arraigned in court to answer to charges of child neglect.

Appearing before Principal Magistrate Catherine Ocharo, the accused, Esther Kasyoki, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The court heard that on July 10, 2015 at Kyengai village in Wamunyu location within Yatta Sub-County, Kasyoki allegedly assaulted her eight-year-old son by beating him and chasing him away from home for two days.

Kasyoki however denied the charges arguing that her child had refused to go to school and she was just punishing him for the mistake.

The case will be heard on September 23, 2015.
