A woman was arrested on Wednesday by police after she allegedly presented a fake birth certificate to Juja CDF offices asking for help for her child.
Area police boss Mr Luke Odiwuor said that the CDF officers alerted the police after they noticed that the document was fake and that the woman appeared to be trying to con the officials.
The police apprehended her and upon interrogation, she failed to produce the person who made the fake certificate. The woman said that she had picked it from the registrar of persons in Thika. However, police said the registrars’ office denied issuing the certificate.
Following the incident, the public has been notified to be vigilant as there are reports that a group of individuals is issuing fake birth certificates in Thika and Juja sub-counties.
Addressing the press on Wednesday evening from Thika registration of person’s office, Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Mr Jeremiah Gicheru said that he has received reports of some individuals within the Sub County who are walking around soliciting for funds from the public as they issue fake birth certificates.
“Reports of individuals in possession of fake birth certificates have reached my office and I have instructed security agents to carry out investigations and ensure that the culprits are apprehended as soon as possible,” he said.
The area registrar of births and deaths Mr Nelson Kigaka stressed that being in possession of fake documents is illegal and warned that it can attract serious legal implications.
The woman is set to interrogated further before being arraigned in court.
