A 29-year-old woman was on Wednesday charged before a Kisii court with neglecting her two children.
Rachael Rabera admitted to neglecting the children when she appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate, Daniel Mayoyo.
She was charged that on diverse dates between January 1, 2009 and November 8, 2014 she left her two children with her grandmother without providing them with food, clothing and education thereby subjecting them to torture.
A report by the children’s department in Kisii said the single mother left the children with their grandmother in Bisiongororo village in Gucha sub County and went to Mombasa town where she allegedly cohabited with another man.
Locals had alerted the children’s department when they noticed that the children were living in poor condition with their grandmother who had no income to sustain them.
Daniel Mayoyo directed the children department to closely monitor Rabera who pleaded for forgiveness swearing never to abandon her children again. She will be sentenced on September 7.
