A woman has been charged before a Kisumu chief magistrate court with being in possession of bhang worth Sh25,000.
Mary Awino on Wednesday denied the charges when she appeared before chief magistrate Esther for the offence she is alleged to have committed on August 20, 2015.
According to the prosecution papers, the accused was arrested at the Kisumu main bus stage trying to board a vehicle to Nakuru.
The bhang which was in rolls was stashed in handkerchiefs. She was nabbed after a search was conducted on those boarding the vehicle, the court heard.
Police were notified and they arrested her where she was taken to Kondele police station for further questioning.
The prosecution objected Awino’s bail application, saying that she might run way incase she was freed, and also investigations were still going on and there is a chance that she might tamper with it that once she is released.
The magistrate, however, released Awino on a cash bail of Sh10,000 with surety of a similar amount after squashing the prosecution’s objection, saying that their reasons were not valid for denying the accused bail.
The case will be heard on January 13 next year.
