A 2-day-old baby has been found abandoned in a vegetable stall behind Keroka police station.
Keroka OCS Pixley Musyoka said a vendor, Ms Roseline Moraa, on Tuesday stumbled on the baby abandoned in the stall when she reported to work on Wednesday.
He said the baby boy might have been abandoned by a young mother who did not want to take care of it.
“The baby was wrapped in checked white clothing and a white shawl, and might have been abandoned there in the dead of the night,” Mr Musyoka said.
Separately, Mr Musyoka said more than 80 people have been arrested in Masaba South District in the on-going crackdown against illicit brew.
“Many of them were arrested in Nyankoba area where we destroyed more than 80 drums of a 200-litre hooch,” he said.
Several cartons of assorted second generation brew were impounded and destroyed in the swoop, he said.
“What we destroyed were the fake brands of the second generation brew that have been selling at bars in Keroka town,” he said.
He said more raids are continuing in Nyamira County to ensure the illicit brew was eliminated.
In Kisii, police continued their raids on illicit brew dens by seizing and destroying more than 3,000 litres of hooch and chang'aa.
The county commander, Simon Kiragu, said more than 180 people have so far been arrested in the countywide swoop.
