Women in Bonchari sub-county have been challenged to utilise the available health centre maternity services, instead of flocking at Kisii level Five Hospital.

Sub-county Medical Officer Dr Mary Nyandoro expressed concern that many women from the area shun the facility, despite its’ quality service delivery.

She at the same time lamented that a big percentage of pregnant women preferred using the traditional birth attendants, instead of seeking services of qualified personnel.

Speaking on Wednesday at the centre, Nyandoro called on pregnant women to deliver at the facility, saying they have qualified staff and modern equipment.

She pointed out that the national government was paying Sh2,500 for every child born in public facilities, which was a good source of revenue for expansion.

“The Sub-County health management team is committed to ensuring that the services being offered are up to standard despite resource challenges,” she said.

The officer further noted that the Sub County health management team was addressing some of the challenges like congestion in the wards, and shortage of staff houses.
