Uasin Gishu women representative Eusilah Ngeny has urged women to come out in large numbers and vie for elective posts come the next general elections.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Monday after meeting women leaders in the region, Ngeny said that it is sad that there are few women in elective positions yet women are the majority.
"We have started an initiative that will run in the 47 counties meant to sensitise women on the importance of vying for elective position such as MP, MCA, Governor and even the president come the 2017 general elections. We are the majority and nothing is impossible. We need to battle these men out for our needs to be fully catered for," she said.
She noted that men have failed in leading this country adding it’s time for the women who have proved that when given a chance they can bring change in the leadership of the country to come out and fight the corruption and all evils precipitated by men’s leadership.
"It is very sad that we are the majority and at the moment we don’t have even one elected governor or senator. I think there is something wrong with us ladies. We need to change our mentalities that leadership is only meant for men and come out in 2017 to vie for elective posts and surely we will make a difference in the leadership of this country,” she said.
“For us wanting to be elected does not mean that we undermine men, we just want to compliment them," she added
