Women Groups in Uasin Gishu County have been urged to embrace table banking projects, since they uplift the livelihoods of women, especially in the grassroots where they were only regarded as house wives.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Saturday after meeting women groups from Uasin Gishu County, women representative Eusilah Ngeny urged the groups to join table banking and see the fruits of devolution.
“Time has come for our groups to invest in table banking, which is a way of strengthening and improving the livings standards of women to be self-reliant since it empowers them and eradicates poverty, and it has been taken by many groups now,” she said.
She further added that table banking is more structured than merry go rounds, where people have no repayment methods, adding that the latter often just pay interest on the loan and the group cannot lend again since the capital is tied up.
“Women economic empowerment is the key to economic growth of any nation, table banking concept requires innovative minds and cooperation, and so far women from 13 counties had embraced and benefited from it,” added Eusilah.
