Nyamira women have been called upon to ensure that they take up top political positions come 2017 so that they can be able to empower themselves.
Speaking in Gekomoni Catholic Church on Sunday during a fundraising, Grace Nyachoti, an activist said that women in the country have the numbers and hence they can win any position if they decide to do so.
“It is time women in this country also fight to get this leadership positions and stop relying solely on nominations,” said Nyachoti.
Nyachoti who is known well for fighting for women rights in Nyamira county stressed on the fact that women should not only wait to be nominated to positions but rather offer stiff competition to their male counterparts. She also added that all women should learn to support each other so that they can realise their dreams as a team.
The constitution has made it mandatory that women must get a third of all elective and nomination seats in public offices.
