Nakuru women leaders have supported the county government’s move to demolish illegal hawking structures.

Led by county assembly speaker Susan Kihika, the leaders said the move will help clean up the county and improve sanitation standards. Kihika, who led other women in a fund raiser at Kiamunyeki church in Nakuru on Monday, lashed out at those condemning Governor Kinuthia Mbugua over the demolitions.

“It’s unfortunate that some leaders in Nakuru do not see the need of cleaning up our towns and streets. Those opposed to the move are enemies of development but women leaders will back the governor as he cleans up the town,” she said.

Eburu Mbaruk county assembly member Jane Simita said they will work with the governor to boost cleanliness in Nakuru and its environs.

She added that the county government is committed to ensure that hawkers have proper and improved working environment.

The women spoke after the fundraiser whose money will be used on widows and Kiamunyeki church.
