Women in Kimuchu area of Witeithie Ward have decried the slow return of unwanted alcoholic drinks in the area.
The women are blaming the local administration for the occurrence.
During a demonstration at the Thika DCC’s office on Friday morning, the women said that there is a group of people from the area who are selling the brews during the day. The brews are allegedly packed in polythene papers.
“Some are selling chang’aa in papers like water to the youths around the villages. They are known only that they cannot be arrested by the chiefs,” one of the women said.
They added that they have been reporting to the chief and his assistants but no action has been taken so far.
Thika DCC Jeremiah Gicheru has assured them that the chief is being investigated. Gicheru said he will tour the area to ensure that no brews are returning in Kimuchu.
He commended the women saying that they have acted as good examples in fighting illicit brews promising them his support.
“You are doing well to the society and we can go far if everyone thought positive as you do. Let’s unite and fight illicit brews and crime in Thika,” Gicheru said.
